Earth in Danger

Todor Nikolov

Natural disasters  (geodinamyc risks, earthquakes, volcanism, flood etc.) are not the worst side of human existence. Moreover, the major geologic and cosmic catastrophes are rare events. Worse is ignorance and / or the illusion that humanity can prevail over all.

Main threats to life on Earth today are related to human impact : Intensive growth of population;  Intensive urbanization; massive deforestation, expansion of desert areas and destruction of habitats; disturbing the balance of ecosystems and the alarming loss of biodiversity; pollution on land, air, ocean and  space near Earth; Inequality in living standards; Increase of greenhouse gases and climate changes;  genetic modification leading to intervention in the genetic code of organisms that can cause loss of unique genetic identity of native species.
