Social Science in Bulgaria – Îvercoming of Paradoxes and Building of Strong Communities Vassil Prodanov Abstract Four paradoxes of the social sciences in Bulgaria in the last 15 years are formulated: a) the strongest crisis processes took place in the social sciences but the number of scholars is growing only in this field while in the other disciplines they have decreased; b) the number of social scientist as a whole has increased while in the Bulgarian academy of sciences it has decreased; c) the level of privatization in this field is the highest one; d) the main part of publications and conferences are prepared by social scientists of the Bulgarian academy of science but their salaries are the less ones. The necessity for a strong scientific community is discussed in this context. |
